Your own power bank from whatever battery comes your way. The “Zariadzhaika” is a top cover unit that turns any 6S battery into a full-fledged power bank. A drone battery, a leftover from a repair, a captured or found battery: put it in the battery compartment, connect it to the connectors on the underside of the unit, and screw the unit on with self-tapping screws. Done: one sturdy housing, four power ports, a flashlight and a charge indicator.<\/p>\n
The final version. Development is complete: this is the result of several generations of the “Zariadzhaika”. The XT60 and 7pin balance connectors have been moved to the bottom face. They go straight into the box, so the battery connects from inside with no external wires. Nothing sticks out, snags or gets torn off. We have added a flashlight button with an LED on the end face and a button to turn off the balancer.<\/p>\n
Why a balancer, and why turn it off. Over time, the cells of a 6S battery drift apart in voltage. The battery loses capacity, and charging it the usual way becomes dangerous. The active balancer equalizes the cells during operation, so even unbalanced batteries that would otherwise be scrapped can be used. Once the battery is balanced, you can turn the balancer off with the button so it does not drain the charge.<\/p>\n
Why it is convenient. Two USB-C ports with Power Delivery and two USB-A ports deliver up to 100 W in total for phones, radios, tablets and Type-C powered laptops. The battery charges through the same Type-C port, so you do not need a separate charger for it. The digital indicator shows the remaining charge.<\/p>\n
Inexpensive. You pay only for the unit and the housing. You already have the most expensive part of a power bank, the battery. A battery that was lying idle works for you again.<\/p>\n
How to connect. The Zariadzhaika works only when both battery connectors are connected: the XT60 power connector and the 7pin balance connector. Through the balance connector, the BMS protection board sees the voltage of each cell. Without it, the board does not enable the output, and the ports will not work. Once both connectors are connected, you can power phones, radios, tablets and other devices from the battery, just like from a power bank. You can also charge the battery via Type-C.<\/p>\n
How to connect the 7pin balance connector correctly. Insert the plug straight, without tilting, and all the way in, so that all seven pins fit snugly into the socket. The plug fits only one way. If it does not go in easily, do not force it: turn it over and try again. If forced, it can be inserted upside down or one of the pins can be pushed in, and then the balancer fails. Do not pull on the wires or wiggle the plug. Inspect the plug before connecting: all pins must be in place, straight and not recessed into the housing. It is better to replace a damaged battery plug than to connect it.<\/p>\n
Why this matters. In a regular power bank, the balance wires from the cells are permanently soldered to the board, so contact problems practically never occur. In the Zariadzhaika, the battery is replaceable, and each cell connects to the balancer through a seven-pin connector. If even one pin does not make full contact, is broken off or is pushed into the plug housing, or if the plug is inserted upside down, the balancer reads incorrect voltages. This can cause it to fail, and the device will stop working.<\/p>\n
Unknown or severely unbalanced battery. Before connecting, check the cell voltages with a multimeter or a battery checker. The active balancer will even out a small difference between cells on its own. If the difference between adjacent cells exceeds 0.5 V or any cell has dropped below 3.0 V, first restore the battery with a balance charger.
